QONGHIRKHOJA HOJINOV

Qonghirkhoja Hojinov (1886-1938) was an educator and public figure. He was born in 1886 in Perovsk uyezd of Syrdarya region of Turkestan governorate in the family of a scholar. His ancestors were from the Khojas.

He graduated from the Turkestan teachers’ seminary in Tashkent. According to some opinions, he opened Russian-Tuzem mosques in the village of Karnaq, near the city of Turkestan, and near the cities of Perovsk (now Kyzylorda) and Andijan. The first textbook for Kazakh masgabs – “Bukvar” (Russian) was published in 1912 by Fatih Karimi typography in Orenburg. He fought against the colonial policy of the Russian Empire in the Turkestan region. From 1908 he lived under control.

On August 2-5, 1917, he was elected to the presidium of the Turkestan Kazakh-Kyrgyz congress and became a deputy from the Syrdarya region. On November 26, 1917, he was elected a member of the National Assembly of Turkestan under the name of Qonghirkhoja Hojinov at the 4th Extraordinary Congress of Muslims of All-Turkistan, which opened in the city of Kokand. On January 5-8, 1918, he took an active part in the Congress of Kazakhs of Syrdarya region, which was in the city of Turkestan. He came from Perovsk and attended the first Kyrgyz (Kazakh) pedagogical courses opened in Tashkent in November 1918. He later played an important role in the establishment of the Kyrgyz Institute of Education (originally the Kazakh Institute of Public Education), which was established in Tashkent [1].

As the Deputy People’s Commissar of Land and Water Affairs of the Turkestan ASSR, he led the land and water reform in Yettisuv region since 1921. Later, he worked in the field of education in Kazakhstan ASSR.

Qonghirkhoja Hojinov was repressed by the Soviet regime in 1938.
